Is DRUK Trying To Silence Disability Researcher?

Disability Rights UK (DRUK) have been around a long time, helping disabled people navigate the benefits system with their informative fact sheets available to download from their website.

Like many other charities, gradually, DRUK have been sitting at the table with government officials in the designing of the WCA since 2010, offering both critique and praise alike.

Many will know that DRUK have recently been afforded Government contracts to supply Disability Equality Training to the new contractor, Maximus, for the WCA assessments to ensure disabled people get better treated  within the process. I am sure that DRUK think they are trying to ease the stress these flawed assessments cause many disabled claimants. However, how can you offer help to disabled people then, with the same breath, support the oppressive regime the WCA has become?  This smacks of conflict of interest.

As many disability campaigners know one of their own, Sue Marsh (Spartacus Network), was co-opted by IDS to work for Maximus. This caused much outrage amongst the disability movement dividing many campaigners into two camps, with some calling Marsh a traitor who they deemed was bought to silence her, and others, as Spartacus members gave personal stories etc to the network. Members felt betrayed and concerned as to where their data was, and how it could be used against them come reassessment, with Marsh now working for the government contracted oppressor of disabled people who are dying in their thousands.

Benefits and Work  website reported in January 2015

Following its signing of disability campaigner Sue Marsh earlier this month, Maximus – the company taking over the work capability assessment contract from Atos in March – have now signed up a leading disability charity as well.

Disability Rights UK (DRUK) have announced that they have agreed a contract to deliver training in disability equality to Maximus health professionals.

DRUK has over 300 member organisations, including many national charities, and aims to ‘Break the link between disability and poverty’. Maximus, which is being paid more than double the amount that Atos was being paid to carry out WCA’s seems keen to prevent potential opponents from slipping into poverty by sharing some of its taxpayer funded profits with them.

DRUK are also advertising for people to take part in what looks very much like a promotional campaign for income protection insurance – the sort of thing that Unum provide as an alternative to state support – though there is no suggestion that Unum are involved on this occasion.

Members of the public who have had a serious illness and are trying to return to work are offered the amounts of money and support they would have had if they had been wealthy enough to afford to take out income protection insurance cover. They are filmed as they make the return to work and these films can then be used to encourage people to take out income protection insurance.

Of course, the worse the level of state benefits and state support, the more easily people can be persuaded to take out such insurance, giving insurance companies a vested interest in maintaining the link between disability and poverty.

The Black Triangle Campaign and Disabled People Against the Cuts  have also  highlighted on their respective websites many of the shortcomings of this government’s failure to ‘Help the most vulnerable in society and protect them,’ with DPAC going to the UN which recently found that disabled people’s human rights were breached under the convention. (Links below)

Make no bones about it, private disability insurance is on its way under Tory rule as we follow the examples of USA, Canada, Australia etc of welfare provision, which is soon to be highlighted in a new book by independent disability studies researcher, Mo Stewart, called Cash Not Care- the planned demolition of the UK welfare state, due to be published later this year. Former healthcare professional and disabled veteran Mo Stewart has spent 6 long years gathering information, which has assisted many disabled campaigners in their fight against these ideological reforms, which caused preventable harm to disabled people and saved very little money for the government; a pledge they used to sell this lie to the public who bought it hook, line and sinker. Mo’s very detailed research reports are available online.

You may wonder that I have wandered off topic but you need to understand the background before I lay the cards on the table.

It seems that DRUK would like to now garner the services of researcher Mo Stewart on the new APPG Inquiry regarding ‘Welfare to Work’ which they administer, and which is the next step of this government’s ongoing psycho- coercion to force claimants into work, regardless of the harm it will cause. They fail miserably to understand that many chronically sick and disabled people cannot work, and that their health problems are permanent, as they built the welfare reform policies based on so called ‘academic research’ which has been subsequently demonstrated to be fatally flawed, in the case of the Freud Report, and based on totally bogus research in the case of the DWP evidence used to justify the WCA. http://csp.sagepub.com/content/early/2016/05/25/0261018316649120.abstract

The aim is to go beyond a critique to a template or blueprint for co-ordinated Government action to halve the ‘disability employment gap’.  Even those who want to work (and many disabled people do work), due to the barriers they face regarding access, together with employers who are unwilling to take disabled people on in the workplace, or to make the necessary adjustments needed, they can’t.  For example, most buildings, transport etc are not disability friendly.

Many disabled people are now being put through the Personal Independence Payment (PIP) assessments and are actually losing both their Motability cars, and their jobs, as many disabled people are unable to use public transport.  So, the removal of access to a Motability car also means the loss of paid work. Yet another consequence of welfare reforms the government failed to consider.

What bit of this do the DWP fail to grasp is mind boggling, and clearly lacks any common sense.  Without addressing the barriers, and accepting that many cannot work, is the sole reason the government has failed to halve the disability employment gap as they claimed they wanted to do.  That claim always was little more than propaganda and Tory party rhetoric used in the ongoing psycho-coercion of the British people via the right-wing press.

Thankfully, Mo Stewart declined the offer to join the APPG government inquiry. She challenges the theory behind the planned report, does not wish to be the ‘token’ disabled person on the research team, and there would be a risk that any negative reaction to the eventual report by the disability support groups could be justified by the DWP when highlighting Mo’s contribution. She totally refuses to become another government ‘patsy.’

So, Mo declined the invitation to join the APPG Inquiry research team and is waiting for her book to be published, which is a strong indictment of all those involved in the WCA process. This is the research the government attempted to stop, and the book the government do not want people to read.

She’s also writing further research to support disabled people, and the DWP have discovered that Mo is not easily silenced in her condemnation of these American influenced welfare reforms that she has spent over 6 years of her life researching and reporting.

Lynne Friedli’s powerful talk regarding the psycho-coercion used by the state is well worth 45 minutes of your time, demonstrating the realities of the state using psychosocial rhetoric to enforce work that may be unpaid and certainly, for many, will be harmful.(You Tube link)

The Budget & Voter Apathy

untitled

Today we saw the last budget by the Condems before the next election in 2015.  Business did well with tax breaks and lower taxes to boost the economy which we all need, pensioners got the golden honey pot of ISA’s and saving breaks to keep them voting, and the rest of the population got a right kick in balls.  Yet again the Disabled, Carers get hit with a Welfare Cap of 119million,while the Labour benches looked stunned into silence with the stitch up of the decade making it  very difficult without a vote in parliament to spend more on welfare. Also slipped in was the new  7 day waiting time for ESA.

Living Standards are falling at fastest rate since 1870 and all this budget did was pile more pressures  on those at the bottom who are already close to collapse. We have more working families needing foodbanks , even though Benefit Sanctions are causing a recent massive upsurge, with claimants needing help till they get sanctions lifted, and the most ridiculous excuses used by JCP & DWP to sanctioning  those on JSA, which when Universal Credit comes in will get much worse. On top of all this many are being hit by the Under Occupancy charges (aka BedroomTax) already having to choose between heating or eating.

Those in charge of running this country and those who may follow will continue making further cuts, whilst piling on the misery to many, and we now have more children on poverty than ever before. ‘Out of Touch’ is the phrase being banded about and it is correct to make that assumption as many of those in power have never known poverty or ever likely too know poverty, to them peoples lives are chess pieces they move around a board to juggle what they see  is wasteful taxes being spent on those who are Workshy, Feckless and Lazy Scroungers, while the some are earning a crust daily while being spoon fed propaganda by this shower and have swallowed it hook, line, sinker.while it saves them from dipping into their own pockets for them to cough up more taxes. To add insult to injury they award themselves  a bloody 11% payrise while the taxpayer foots the bills for their own lavish lifestyles while taxpayers are busting a gut to pay their own outgoings and put food on table and keep a roof over their heads etc.

Its a smart move by Osbourne even though it chokes me to say so, trying to keep the 1% happy and the chattering middle classes & pensioners to keep them in office, until after next election. Pensioners face having their Bus Passes TV Licenses, Winter Fuel Allowances  chopped after the 2015 election. The changes to National Insurance being scrapped to become a National Earning Tax and possibility to a National Service Bill for those 18-25yr olds (compulsory for 12mths) while scaling down the regular army its another way to juggle the youth unemployment figures down. Then we have European  debate raging on in the background , along with Scotlands Independence  vote shortly.

They wonder why people call it a  Class War , that is because it is one, created by fear and misinformation to turn neighbour against neighbour because while they are all squabbling about it, those in power wheel and deal behind our backs because our eyes are off the ball at who the real culprits are! Yes the Bankers caused this crisis not the poor, whom I may add are getting paid handsome sums of taxpayers money ,and the government who seem untouchable and walk on water are taking more taxpayers money , in second homes, and expenses than almost any benefit claimaint/low paid worker  has ever dreamt of or seen in real terms.

No wonder people don’t go out and vote and apathy to vote in this country is so bad, I’d be surprised if anyone turned up at all in 2015. Our young are cast aside & demonised , our elderly are ones who vote  and those in middle think they all same so why bother, they don’t take no notice of what my needs are, and those at bottom of the heap are so downtrodden they turn their ears off from politics because they are too busy struggling to survive! Society has become the survival of the fittest, and its most selfish in recent times.

Those who are ardent politico’s are battling now to get the party they support votes, while the many online and on the street are saying they are all the same so why bother, lets have a revolution. Whatever the outcome of the next election it is going to be one of the most bloodiest battles in centuries  but one thing is for certain those at the bottom will get punished more and more if they survive that long, and will be transported back to times they thought were long gone and barbaric-Dickenson England and the Welfare State as we know it will be a distant memory.

Radical Change will only happen if you make it happen, for those in power  do not have your best interests at heart, they have only their own interests they care about, Cash is King in a Capitalist World. Use your Vote , Don’t lose your Vote.

Corruption,Selfishness,Greed UK PLC

Corruption in UK is rife by those who think because they have money they can abuse the rights of Individuals and  the Corporations they represent. Human Rights Abuses are many and it has to  STOP  !
Daily I hear the doom and gloom of the people being abused which are the poorest in society. People with ill health, being ruled unable to work, being told to get out homes because they are meant to downsize so a more worthy soul who works like a slave on minimum wage can have their home, and supports the ethos of the CONDEMS to cut welfare. I know that some people also abuse the system aimed to help them, but these have been proven to be a very small 0.5% of a few unscrupulous selfish individuals whose greed is the same as those in charge of some of the most powerful places in UK.,They have shares in Healthcare, Drug, Energy Companies,  and where are the biggest rises  and privatisations happening in this area of welfare.
The Public are slowly waking up to the plight of those on bottom rung as it starts to bite Middle England, but slow is the operative word. We have our politicians who are claiming all sorts as part of their jobs out of the taxpayers pot and all I have heard the last 3 years is Silence while they stick the boot in those unable to defend themselves, while they rub their hands at  owning their own home, the 4×4, two hols a year while never realising most those people claiming have also contributed to society and now they are in need are asking for assistance they were promised through national insurance…yes INSURANCE. Just like you insure your life or car many have paid 20/30/50yrs into a scheme that promised to look after them. if they needed.

Kicking the poor has become a new’ Olympic Bloodsport’  while those able to work and the well off bleat about spending their taxes on the most vulnerable in society rather than share that wealth, to have a more equal society.  Where humanity overrides selfishness and greed and for people to help those who can’t help themselves so they can have a little more and enjoy the basic of pleasures of  a friendly face or a cooked meal, and a warm home  .

They don’t complain while politicians and bankers and others claim for things they shouldn’t from the public purse, fiddle their expenses, and fund second homes with all the trimmings gets the thumbs up. How many readers of this blog would like a second home they didn’t have to fund, and holiday free gratis etc etc or a free pub meal down your local. I can tell you many would be glad to be able to feed themselves once a day, feed their kids, and keep themselves warm when needed, and cosseted when sick.

The silence to defend the indefensible is the biggest threat to humans since the dinosaurs extinction. It’s called the Blame game!

BLAME LIST

It isn’t rocket science to see who is blagging the system  and taking your taxes and it isn’t the most vulnerable in society. Many stealth taxes hit the poorest ,VAT being one of them we all pay regardless. Many also work.

If your working and earning a decent income when you go to your supermarket shopping, just stop and think for one second to see if you could buy a tin soup to put in the food banks trolley on your way out. If you see that person on the street begging stop and think and offer your loose change it may be only drink to keep warm they had for some time. Before anyone attacks me for this stance put yourself in that persons shoes ,they are not all drunks, druggies etc many are genuinely in a difficult place could you sleep on a street? I know I couldn’t. I may be able to go without food for a day or two but then I would be thinking of ways to get food which may lead me to commit a crime.

What a state of affairs we find ourselves in. I’m coming to what I call the latter end of ones average  lifespan and what I see today sickens me to my stomach more than any words I can type here. It is time to reverse and find humanity and compassion for our fellow-man because 10 years ago I was fit and healthy until life took me down a different path through no fault of my own. Check to see whether that old man/lady across road needs shopping or they are ok? Ask how someone you know who having a bad time is feeling /doing?

Let us dump one ‘C’ for four others Care, Compassion, Community, Campaign .
