IAPT -The Governments Magic Cure for Mental Health

Most people will have heard of CBT therapy for helping those with mental health problems, some may have received it and felt it helpful, but for the majority with serious mental health problems this will not make a jot of difference and in some cases cause more harm. What is insidious about this is that it will be forced upon those who claim Social Security payments in helping them get back to work with their new  health and work programme which is integral to Universal Credit.

This is most likely going to be part of the so called ”Universal Support’ in Universal Credit where the government has target groups, and I’m sure this isn’t the worst of the many packages this government proposes to force upon those groups mentioned in my other blog ‘Universal Support’.

The government in its wisdom wants to half the disability employment gap which most governments have failed to do consistently for decades. The base rate of 5% has never really changed,so it is folly for them to think so , as employers are reluctant to take on people who have mental health or other disabilities let alone the many with chronic ill health which is never catered for in any policy they dream up.

Work is not a ‘cure for all ills’ as this government would like to peddle to media and swallowed by the gullible public who seem to resent our very existence until they are affected personally because of selfish desires not to pay taxes for those needing support from the state, which I hasten to add have paid their own taxes until they became mentally unwell or disabled, so are eligible to claim payment, after all that’s what NI was all about an insurance to cover you if you fell on hard times .

In an ideal world it should be standard practice for disabled people to obtain work on merit if able, but it all comes back to that real issue of ‘productivity and profit’ so  majority of disabled people don’t tick that box precisely because we are not as productive as our able bodied counterparts by the very nature of disability, being off sick when things are bad, hospital appointments,or regular treatment or surgery.

Its a no- brainer to a rational thinking person, but we know our government don’t think like normal people, they just dream up pointless expensive schemes to waste taxpayers money to show the public they are doing something even though they have demonstrated  most fail and cost more than paying benefits in the first place.

Many more dark oppressive schemes are coming to light so we must be vigilant and stand up against forcing people to be so distressed that they harm or worse death to its citizens. It is not like we don’t know how many have decided to end it all over the constant pressures they are put under daily by the DWP monsters, who are out of control.

Disability-Disabilism-Mistrust

cam badge

I have campaigned for some years now and since the Condems got in, more so, as the austerity measures they put into action are hitting those who are the hardest hit-THE POOREST in society!

Never before have I come across such a movement in my lifetime that has been so willing to risk everything they have got, to make a better future for all those affected by this governments cuts and I have met some fantastic dedicated campaigners along the way who are regardless of their own ill-health and disabilities and personal circumstances (that many have little clue of behind the scenes), as the tireless tirade of media rhetoric, government rhetoric of hatred that has spewed from the mouths of those who can change the course of people’s lives at the drop of a hat, and in many circumstances cause indirectly the deaths of so many without redress.

One thing I have noticed of late is the ugly head of mistrust of those making a difference-the campaigners! They are attacked by their own as well as by this government, where Disabilism is rife and a hierarchy where those being oppressed oppress others by sitting as judge and jury about neighbours, or other people within the movement which I will call ‘the deserving and not deserving’ culture which sickens me to my stomach. We are not doctors or assessors we cannot tell whether someone’s circumstances warranty their awards or not! For one it isn’t any our business either!

The other thing I have noticed is that the inherent racism that breeds like a plague which only serves to distract from the focus of the campaign as a whole, and divides us even more just as this government wants. In fact I wouldn’t be surprised if this wasn’t a deliberate ploy by paid flunky’s to infiltrate the movement just like they did with the miners.

We have to stand together as one, each group has a different approach but the goal is the ‘same’ to scrap the WCA and start again, as this assessment is so flawed it is causing more pain and suffering to those who have to go through this awful test while not saving the money this government had hoped for , in fact it costing them more as flaw after flaw is exposed and money is wasted so shamelessly while they tweak it which just causes more issues because from the beginning it wasn’t thought through and managed correctly.

The many groups who are there for support have thousands of members and help and advice is there for all who are in need, administrated by those who freely give their time while being disabled themselves to help their fellows to help themselves in this god awful mess that has been thrust upon us all. However some among us are only there to disrupt and cause mischief which is what irritates me the most, it like a scratch you cannot itch, but most of all it’s done in such an underhand cowardly way.

My message to those individuals is STOP because many campaigners are now having to involve the police due to threats and general insulting behaviour and ‘isms ‘ that they send via text, private messages, email or in some cases online in social networks and in some cases death threats are made and these are being taken very seriously by the police so be warned . Many are considering naming and shaming those who do such things, which I don’t agree with personally as it makes another victim due to someone’s ignorance etc.

It saddens me to my core that the divide and rule of some, affect so many, and make their lives more miserable than they already are when struggling to deal with the day-to-day onslaught of the  ill-health & disabilities they suffer and the flawed assessments imposed by this government, without turning on each other which is exactly what mostly happens in times when extreme hardship comes to bear upon us.

Those campaigners are doing it because they ‘care’ passionately about getting things right for the ‘many’ not the few. Who work tirelessly behind the scenes for the betterment of all as well as administer groups and pages when possible, help fill in forms or show you where you can get the right help.

So please I ask you all support these people in their efforts and stop attacking them just because you have a different viewpoint or method of doing things, it serves no purpose  except to hold back what we all dearly want –to bring about changes to a fair  playing field for all and stop many more dying as a consequence.
